MINUTES

PITTSBURGH AFTRA LOCAL

GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING

14 November 2005

USWA Building

Vice President David Earlyopened the meeting at 7:15 PM with a moment of reflection.

Secretary Barbara Boylan reported that the Board had approved the new WEAE-AM (ABC/Disney) contract.

The Board approved David Flick to fulfill the remainder of John Garry’s term on the board. It also accepted the resignations of Leslie McCombs and Sheri Van Dyke.

The Board also discussed holding an annual Gala Awards meeting in June, but took no action.

Treasurer Mark Roberts gave a brief financial report. Spending is on track with the Local’s budget. There do not appear to be any problem areas.

Executive Director John Haer gave a rundown on the current contract talks and arbitrations. He said the unit at WEAE-AM had approved the new contract, which was then approved by the Board.

Assistant Executive Director Chris Lacey said the freelance efforts are gaining momentum. He is hoping to start a mentoring program for new members and a workshop for copy work. He urged members to check the minutes from the Freelance Steering and Conservatory Committees.

The meeting was adjourned for the screening of Young, Gifted and Black: Pittsburgh’s African American Achievers and the presentation of AFTRA’s American Scene Award to (former) WPXI-TV producer Robin Beckham.
