AFTRA PREVAILS: ADVERTEL ORDERED TO PAY UP

By Staff Reporters

PITTSBURGH (September 10, 2004) A judge has ruled in favor of AFTRA in a dispute with a producer that had its beginnings over two years ago.

It was at the Labor Day parade in 2002 that Nancy Mimless mentioned to AFTRA's Suzanne Steidl that she had not been paid by ads-on-hold company, Advertel, Inc. At the same time, Chris DeCarlo called to complain that the check she received from Advertel had bounced.

Steidl discovered that not only was Advertel not paying in a timely manner, the company was not making appropriate Health and Retirement contributions nor was it paying the appropriate amounts under the Non-Broadcast/Industrial Code. AFTRA calculated the wages owed to both members based on the work information supplied to the union. After winning an arbitration in April of this year there finally is a settlement for both members.

Advertel has been ordered to pay both members moneys owed to them and to make the appropriate H&R contributions.

Advertel, Inc. has been placed on AFTRA’s unfair list so no AFTRA, SAG or Equity member can work for Advertel.
