By Mark Roberts PITTSBURGH (December 15, 2005) At its regular meeting last evening, the AFTRA Pittsburgh Board of Directors approved the recently-negotiated KQV Radio contracts covering both the Air Staff and Support Personnel. The contracts will now go to the National Board for final approval. The new agreement is retroactive to 11/01/05 and will expire on 10/31/2008. Gains include airstaff salary increases ranging from 2.3% to 8.53% depending on seniority. H&R contributions and mileage reimbursement rates have also been increased. AFTRA members for the first time will be able to have dues automatically deducted from their paychecks. The dues checkoff system has proved popular at other local stations where it has been available for some time. In other actions, the Board voted unanimously to continue its subsidy for the Talent Guide Website (thetalentguide.com), enabling the Local to offer this tool to its members free for 2006. In addition, the Local also provides a similar site for broadcasters who are seeking employment, Airstaff.net. This site is also available free to members of AFTRA Pittsburgh. The Board and Local staff are investigating several other organizing opportunities, and to that end have authorized a special lowered initiation fee to be used in certain instances. Details will follow as these plans are made public. ###
