PRESQUE ISLE STATE PARK, PA (September 10, 2005) We couldn't have picked a better day to take a drive up I-79. Presque Isle State Park provided the backdrop for a get-together with the Erie members of our AFTRA Local. President Paul Martino and Treasurer Mark Roberts accompanied the Pittsburgh staff; John Haer, Executive Director; Chris Lacey, AED Freelance; and Nancy Barron, Office Manager. Erie's Board Member Mark Soliday led the group from WICU-TV including Brittney Gordon, Rob Wilson, Scott Cook, their families and guests.
Following good food and drink, their were many questions asked and answered. Erie's TV talent shares many of the same problems others in our local have, and some specific to their city. The most significant point AFTRA leaders in attendance tried to make was that solid communication continues to be the key to success. Erie members need not feel isolated from the larger group (regionally or nationally). AFTRA exists to help solve their problems. We can all do a better job keeping the lines of communication open in both directions. Following the picnic Haer said, “I was very pleased to have some time to meet and talk with our Erie members in person. It was a great opportunity to learn about them and their work at the station and to let them know that AFTRA was there for any of their needs.” |
