PITTSBURGH (September 5, 2005) Buoyed by a perfect day and fueled by breakfast at the Musicians' Union this morning, a large contingent of AFTRA members was among the thousands who marched in Pittsburgh's Labor Day Parade. More than 200 labor organizations were represented, taking over 2½ hours to complete the march... the second-largest in the United States.

AFTRA Pittsburgh Executive Director John Haer, Office Manager Nancy Barron and Local Officers David Early, Mark Roberts and Barbara Boylan, led the AFTRAns as they moved down the traditional parade route from the Mellon Arena to the reviewing stand at the bottom of the Boulevard of the Allies. Vehicles from AFTRA-represented stations KDKA, KQV, WDVE, ESPN 1250, K-ROCK, Star 100.7 and Y-108 (piloted by Stoney Richards) were mixed in with our group.

Chris Lacey, Ass't Executive Director, Freelance, led the actors and voice talent which included Nancy Mimless, Dan Krell, Jay Pochapin, Evelyn Hawkins, Rodney Regan, and Alan Boal.

Politicians and dignitaries marched near the front of the parade, including Bishop Donald Wuerl, Governor Ed Rendell; state Treasurer Bob Casey; Democratic nominee for mayor of Pittsburgh, former City Council President Bob O'Connor; County Chief Executive Dan Onorato; Lt. Gov. Catherine Baker Knoll; U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle; U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, and Jack Shea, president of the Allegheny County Labor Council.
