PITTSBURGH (July 21, 2006) Barbara Boylan knew the day was special, but wasn't sure anybody else did. When the cake, flowers and TV cameras showed up yesterday, that all changed. With co-workers, former co-workers, friends and her husband in attendance, KDKA Radio celebrated Barbara's 25th anniversary at the station. KDKA-TV captured the festivities for posterity (view video). July 20, 1981 was her baptism by fire. That's the day - her first day - that she was called at 3:00 AM to head to the picket line at the airport. The air traffic controllers were on strike. Barbara's covered a lot of stories since then, and she still finds time to be active in her union. Barb is AFTRA Pittsburgh's Secretary, and also a union representative at KDKA Radio. She has also been elected several times to serve as delegate at AFTRA national conventions. Congrats, Barb... from all of us at AFTRA. |
