BUTLER (July 2, 2006) The local acting community mourns the death of Fred McCarren. McCarren, 55, died at 9:00 AM Sunday, July 2, 2006, at the Butler Memorial Hospital.

A 1969 graduate of Butler Area Senior High School, he attended the University of Cincinnati and Point Park College, and was a graduate of Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey’s Clown College in Sarasota, Florida.

An accomplished actor, Fred appeared in numerous movies, both theatrical and made for TV, including Nationa Lampoon’s Class Reunion, Xanadu, The Good-bye Girl and The Boogens. He starred in the ABC Monday Night Movie of the Week How to Pick Up Girls. He was featured in a number of TV series, such as The Golden Girls, Hill Street Blues, Remington Steele and the Dukes of Hazard. Fred was known for his commercial work, having appeared in more than 200 national radio and TV spots. He was also a cast member in several stage plays.

Fred is survived by his wife, Lisa Hogan McCarren; four sons Tobin P. McCarren - Butler, Charles H. McCarren – serving with the U. S. Air Force at Langley AFB, Virginia, Michael S. McCarren – Butler, and William Frederick West McCarren – Butler; and two daughters, Millicent C. McCarren and Elizabeth A. McCarren – both of Butler

Friends will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler from 2-4 & 7-9 PM Wednesday, July 5. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 6, 2006, at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 North McKean Street, Butler. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Butler.
