PITTSBURGH (August 18, 2006) It took a while, but broadcast legend Eleanor Schano has finally put it all down on paper. The Pittsburgh AFTRA pioneer, and former Board member, has penned a fascinating book full of history—personal history as well as television history.
In Riding the Air Waves: The Life and Televised Times of Eleanor Schano, Schano recounts her path appearing on television fifty-two weeks a year for the past fifty-two years. Riding the Air Waves: The Life and Televised Times of Eleanor Schano offers glimpses of history, celebrity encounters, hilarious anecdotes, personal philosophies, and captivating photographs, representing over half-a-century lived in the public eye. Ms. Schano claims many “firsts” in television— including being the first female commercial announcer, first TV weathergirl, first general assignment female news reporter and one of the first women ever to become the solo anchor of a major market prime-time TV news show. Her pioneering role is now a model for women working in more than 2,000 local television stations in the 500+ markets across the United States. Eleanor Schano is currently heard on KQV radio and seen on WQED-TV. Riding the Air Waves: The Life and Televised Times of Eleanor Schano is scheduled for publication on August 28th, and is available at barnesandnoble.com as well as many local book sellers. |
