MARY RUTH CARLILE HAER

 

PITTSBURGH (January 25, 2007) We have the sad duty to report the passing of the mother of AFTRA Pittsburgh's Executive Director, John Haer.

Mary Ruth Carlile Haer, of 1 Mountain Stream Court, Barnegat, NJ, entered her eternal rest on Wednesday, January 24. She would have been 95 on February 8.

Known and loved for her gracious manner, she engaged and influenced countless others through her long career of teaching and church activities. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of a Methodist minister, she graduated from Indiana State Teachers College of Pennsylvania with a degree in elementary education. She taught first grade for twelve years in Warren, Pa. She was especially proud of her membership in the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Winding Waters Chapter of Spring Hill, FL. Most recently, she was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Beachwood, NJ, and active in the congregation’s women’s club.

Her husband of 55 years, the Rev. Frederick B. Haer, died in 1996. Mary ably assisted Rev. Haer’s ministry to Lutheran congregations in Western Pennsylvania and Florida. They had three children, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

The deceased is survived by three children, Marilynn Odmark (husband Rev. Gordon Odmark); Frederick C. Haer (wife Jill S. Haer) of Brunswick, Maine; and John L. Haer (wife Joni Rabinowitz)) of Pittsburgh, PA. Grandchildren: Kristin Odmark Krampitz; Wendy Odmark McKernan; Andrew Haer; and David Odmark. Great-Grandchildren: Madeline and Jonah Krampitz; Theresa and Natalie Odmark; and Rachael and Christopher McKernan. Great-great-grandchild: Andorai Phinneas Frising.

There will be a viewing of the deceased at 10 AM on Friday, Jan. 26, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, followed by a funeral service at 11. The committal service and interment will be at New Life Lutheran Church in Marion Center, PA, on Sunday, January 28, preceeded by a brief service at 2:30 PM.

The family has requested that memorial gifts be donated to the Fred and Mary Haer Memorial Fund of New Life Lutheran Church, Leroy Rd, Marion Center, PA ,15759 or the Southern Ocean Home Health and Hospice, 1140 Rt. 72 W, Manahawkin, NJ, 08050.
