PITTSBURGH (September 2, 2008) We couldn't have had a sunnier day. AFTRA Pittsburgh again had a large turnout for Pittsburgh's Labor Day parade. President Paul Martino, Vice-President David Early and Treasurer/National Board member Mark Roberts led the huge contingent of broadcasters and actors.
The parade and its estimated 80,000 marchers followed the familiar route from Mellon Arena to Grant Street to the Boulevard of the Allies. Even though a couple of station vehicles were locked out by over-zealous parade officials, many made the cut and were manned by AFTRA Broadcasters and maybe a few interns. There also was a fine showing of freelancerss, including some of the city's best-known actors and voice talent.
This year in what's fast becoming a member favorite, the AFTRANs met after the march on the 14th floor pool deck of the AFTRA building and continued our Labor Day tradition with picnic foods and libations. A few brave souls ignored the cold and had a full-on pool party

Members, family and friends enjoyed a near-perfect day. If you didn't make it this year, you missed a great time. We'll do it again next year, and hope it will be even bigger!
Thanks to Dave "The Party King" Flick, John Haer, Chris Lacey and all the others who helped make the day spectacular.
