Sept. 30, 1966 - Nov. 10, 2009 By: Mark Roberts PITTSBURGH (November 12, 2009) The AFTRA Family shares its grief with the family of Laurence Gaines who passed away suddenly November 10th. Laurence was a member of the Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh Local of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, AFL-CIO (AFTRA) and the Executive Producer of The Bev Smith Show on American Urban Radio Networks.
UPDATE: Services will be held at the Spriggs-Watson Funeral Home, 720 N. Lang Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15208. [Map] Viewing will be Friday, November 13th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM. There will be a remembrance service on Saturday at 11:00 AM. Bev Smith posted the following on November 11th on radiofacts.com: "It is with the deepest sorrow that I inform you that my friend and my executive producer Laurence Gaines has passed away after a long battle with his health. We thought he beat it because he returned to work but God had other plans for Laurence. For those of you who knew him well, you know that he is in heaven trying to get me that interview that I asked for with God (smile). Pray for his family and The Bev Smith Show family." As producer of "The Doug Hoerth Radio Show", a popular, long-running regional radio program, Laurence transcended the producer roll by being placed on the air regularly as Doug's sidekick, and even gained a significant following from Doug's audience. Laurence worked as an on-air producer for ESPNRadio1250 (an ABC station), WTAE Radio (a Hearst station), and KDKA Radio (a CBS station).
