The general store was a Friday night tradition in the early years of Pittsburgh television. However, it was KDKA Radio that lured the Georgia boy and his band in August of 1940.
Bryant fell in love with his adopted city and he settled down in Dormont for the next six decades.
Bryant shared one of his many songs, a former Top Ten hit, when KDKA's Dave Crawley visited his home in 1988 he also penned a local hit, of sorts.
Twenty years later Crawley helped Bryant celebrate his 100th birthday. At the time, he credited clean living and exercise.
"Exercise 44 minutes a day, 22 minutes in the morning, 22 minutes in the afternoon," Bryant said.
With brother Loppy on base, he played Pittsburgh's first television broadcast in January of 1949 at the Syria Mosque.
His 10 years on television overlapped with 20 on the radio and countless appearances in the tri-state area.
