AFTRA MEMBERS CELEBRATE BLACK
HISTORY MONTH | |
![]() |
This celebration first began on February 12, 1926, when American historian Carter G. Woodson established Negro History Week to recall and celebrate the positive contributions to our nation made by people of African American descent. For many years, the second week of February was set aside for this celebration to coincide with the birthdays of black abolitionist and editor Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. In 1976, as part of the nation's bicentennial, the week was expanded into Black History Month. Click here to read more>> |

WIN BIG IN VIDEOGAMES… AGAIN! Six of the top ten games in 2006 were produced under an AFTRA contract | |
![]() |
For the second year in a row, the more than half of the top ten selling videogames in a year were produced under the AFTRA Interactive Media Agreement. The games included top-sellers “Madden NFL 07,” “Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy,” ”Need for Speed: Most Wanted.” AFTRA member and star voice of “Need for Speed” Tom Kane praised his experience under the AFTRA contract saying, “As a professional performer it’s great to be able to do this work under an AFTRA contract. It’s really a win for everyone: as videogames become increasingly complex, players expect higher quality voices—the kind of quality that professional AFTRA talent provides.” Click here to see how AFTRA talent takes videogames to the next level>> |

New enhanced reimbursement benefits for
H&R participants
The AFTRA Health Fund Trustees understand
the frustrations that Health Plan participants have experienced when,
through no fault of your own, you or your covered dependents receive
services from Non-Network providers in Network facilities. This is very
common in the healthcare industry because hospitals, physicians, and other
healthcare providers agree to join a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)
network individually and independently of each other. This makes it
possible to select a Network Hospital but be assigned a Non-Network
Provider (such as an anesthesiologist) or to receive treatment in an
Emergency Room that is not affiliated with a Network Hospital.
In light of the difficulty this has caused participants and their families, the AFTRA Health Fund Trustees have amended the AFTRA Health Plan, effective for claims incurred on or after January 1, 2007. Click here to find out more>>
