MEMBERSHIP NAMES CONVENTION DELEGATES
Ken Rice and David Johnson Leave 'em Laughing

PITTSBURGH (February 10, 2005) Those in attendance at last night's Membership Meeting elected a slate of delegates to represent our local at the AFTRA National Convention in Los Angeles, July 14 - 16.

Pittsburgh is entitled to ten delegates. They are:

  • Alan Boal
  • Barbara Boylan
  • Susan Chapek
  • Anji Corley
  • David Early
  • Paul Martino
  • Nancy Mimless
  • Stoney Richards
  • Mark Roberts
  • Dee Thompson
  • Adrienne Wehr

  • Barbara Boylan and Anji Corley tied for the tenth position. It was determined that no tie breaker vote would be necessary, and the availability of delegates would determine those actually attending. Gerry Scott was elected as an alternate to fill the position of any other member unable to travel.

In other actions last evening, Mark Roberts was named by President Martino to chair the Nominating Committee for this year's election of Officers and Freelance Board Members. Other members named to the Committee are: Chuck Aber, Alan Boal, Dennis Bowman, Evelynn Hawkins and Sean McDowell.

Two of Pittsburgh's best-known television reporters were our special guests last night. The theme of the evening was Meet the Anchors, and Ken Rice of KDKA-TV and David Johnson from WPXI covered the state of the industry, the Pittsburgh market and their individual stations. Although Rice and Johnson touched on serious subject matter, including the current state of broadcast journalism, much of the evening was full of “war stories” that kept the crowd laughing. They'll never be printed, but they'll long be remembered by everyone who attended.

Thanks to David and Ken for a great evening, and for their support of AFTRA.
