   One of the most beloved Radio and TV hosts in Pittsburgh history, Bill Cardille, Chilly Billy, celebrated fifty years on the air at a gala tribute on Saturday November 10th at the Byham Theater.

   The AFTRA Pittsburgh Fall Membership Meeting on Monday, November 12 features guest speaker Scott Paulsen. Paulsen's "My Life in Radio" is an event you don't want to miss.

   The Y-108 Country Crew won the "Best Morning Show" award at this year's Achievement in Radio Awards for the benefit of the March of Dimes. And as usual AFTRA talent took the lion's share of the others.

   By a decisive vote of 12 “YES” to 1 “NO”, on-air and producer staff who work for Metro Networks in the Pittsburgh market ratified AFTRA as their bargaining representative in an NLRB election October 5.

   The termination by Screen Actors Guild of the 26-year-old joint bargaining agreement with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists prompted the AFTRA National Board Saturday to “strongly urge” that the SAG National Board rescind its action that caused the “material breach” of the Phase I Agreement between the two unions.

   Don’t Let a Few Hijack Our Negotiations. As your National President, I am saddened to share that at a time when AFTRA and SAG should be uniting, forces in our sister union are trying to drive us apart.

   An open statement of unity signed by 248 performers who are members of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and Screen Actors Guild will be published in major trade publications this week.

   Hollywood acting coach John Homa returns to Pittsburgh on November 16th and 17th for two intensive acting workshops. John has personally coached numerous LA actors including Kirsten Dunst, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Freddie Prinze Jr.

   Pittsburgh loses another major star. Karl Hardman of radio's Cordic & Company and George Romero's Night of the Living Dead passed away on September 22nd.

   At last week's meeting, the Board of Directors was shown the new AFTRA Member/Production/H&R Report forms. These forms are being distributed now and will replace the old ones as soon as possible.

   Former KDKA-TV anchor Ray Tannehill died Wednesday, September 12 at his home in New Mexico. KDKA's Mary Robb Jackson adds her appreciation.

   AFTRA Members, their families and friends turned out in record numbers for the 2007 Labor Day Parade, and the barbecue and pool party that followed was a smash hit!

   The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists concluded its biennial National Convention with a wide range of actions including the election of New York actor Roberta Reardon as National President; a resolution to seek direct affiliation with the AFL-CIO; and the recognition of 10 programs and productions for their diverse portrayals of the American Scene.

   The Board of Directors of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists--at its two-day plenary meeting prior to the biennial National Convention starting on Thursday—elected Los Angeles actor Matt Kimbrough to serve as a Trustee of the AFTRA Health and Retirement Funds.

   Legislation supported by members of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists to ban "noncompete" and "right of first refusal" provisions from the employment contracts of broadcast and other employees was signed into law Thursday by Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell (R).

   A portion of Stanwix Street, between Fort Duquesne Boulevard and Penn Avenue, will close on Monday, July 2, 2007, for a five-month period to accommodate construction activities associated with the North Shore Connector.

   Members of American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, who are heard as program hosts and announcers on the 'Oprah & Friends' Program on XM Satellite Radio Channel 156, have entered into their first collective bargaining agreement with Oprah & Friends Inc., which produces content for that program.

   The AFTRA Pittsburgh Scholarship Committee met June 5th and selected the recipients of this year's Dan Mallinger Memorial Scholarships. Recipients were announced at the Annual Meeting Monday, June 11.

   The Meisner Technique is a series of acting exercises that develop skills essential for good camera work. Meisner trains the actor to work instinctually rather than intellectually, and to use the imagination to access and develop a broader range of emotions and behavior for stage and screen.

   Downtown, Lawrenceville, and the West End are all bustling with action. Pittsburgh is proud to have eight one-hour episodes of this series for Spike TV being shot over a five month period here in the Burgh. And AFTRA is proud to represent the performers in this union production.

   The Nominating Committee has presented its report to the Executive Director. Included are the Committee's recommendations for Officers and Freelance Board members.

   Meeting by videoconference between New York and Los Angeles, the National Board of Directors of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists unanimously voted to elect New York-based actor and AFTRA National Second Vice President Roberta Reardon to serve as AFTRA National President to complete the remainder of the term of John Connolly, who resigned as president in March.

   A short term extension to the expiration of the AFTRA Network Television Code—which covers all television programming except network dramatic primetime programming—from November 15, 2007, to January 31, 2008, was approved Saturday by the National Board.

   If you lived in Pittsburgh from the fifties through the early eighties, you knew George Eisenhauer's voice. Eisenhauer died over the weekend, he was 80.

   John P. Connolly will step down as National President of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists in March to become National Executive Director of Actors’ Equity Association, it was jointly announced today by AFTRA and Equity.

   AFTRA Pittsburgh will begin accepting applications for our scholarship fund awards for the 2007 - 2008 Academic Year starting January 31, 2007, according to Scholarship Committee Chair, Marc Fields.

   Arthur E. "Art" Pallan, retired KDKA Radio Personality, age 83, of Mars, formerly of Middlesex Twp., and Ft. Myers, FL., died on Monday evening, January 22, 2007 at LAS St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars.
