   As most of you know, new commercial rates became effective on November 1st. The Pittsburgh Regional rates are now online. Call the Office at (412) 281-6767 for any rates not listed.

Fred Clinton Honsberger 1951-2009  
   KDKA talk host Fred Hosnberger died at his Monroeville home this morning. He was 58 years old. Mr. Honsberger's death followed a lengthy battle with medical issues.

AFTRA NewsBriefs Fall 2009  
   This past August the 2009 AFTRA convention of over 240 professional performers, broadcasters and sound recording artists began its biennial meeting with a taped welcome from President Barack Obama and ended just as dramatically as National President Roberta Reardon accepted her unanimous re-election.

Friend, Colleague, Laurence Gaines  
   The AFTRA Family shares its grief with the family of Laurence Gaines who passed away suddenly November 10th.  Laurence was a member of the Board of Directors of the Pittsburgh Local of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, AFL-CIO (AFTRA) and the Executive Producer of The Bev Smith Show on American Urban Radio Networks.

   Local President and KDKA-TV Anchor / Reporter Paul Martino led AFTRA Pittsburgh’s proud contingent in one of the country’s largest celebrations of working people and their unions last Monday.

   The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists concluded its biennial National Convention on Saturday, August 8 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Chicago with a wide range of actions including the re-election of Roberta Reardon as National President and approval of an increase in the initiation fee to join AFTRA.

   Members of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) today honored the long-running daytime drama “As The World Turns,” the reality talent competition show “Randy Jackson presents America’s Best Dance Crew,” Sony Pictures Television’s new series “HawthoRNe” and seven other recipients with the AFTRA 2009 American Scene Awards®, recognizing excellence in programming that portrays diversity in a positive and realistic light.

   In a recorded greeting videotaped specially for the more than 240 delegates to the 62nd AFTRA National Convention in Chicago, former Chicago native President Barack Obama today welcomed attendees to the biennial gathering of the union’s highest governing body.

   The National Board of Directors of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) held its two-day plenary meeting prior to the 62nd AFTRA National Convention which starts on Thursday.

   Members of the Nominating Committee and staff were involved in counting ballots for Local Officers, Local Board and National Board elections yesterday.

   Claudia J. Hizer, 67, of Baldwin, passed away Tuesday, June 23, 2009. Claudia served the Pittsburgh local of AFTRA for nineteen years, through the latter part of the Dan Mallinger years and the early part of the Mark Wirick era.

   In nationwide voting completed today, members of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists and the Screen Actors Guild have overwhelmingly approved new three-year successor agreements to the 2006 AFTRA Television and Radio Commercials Contracts and the 2006 Screen Actors Guild Television Commercials Contract.

Alice Eisner Dies at 87  
   Another light in the local acting has gone out. Alice Gerber Eisner, whose film career didn't start until she was 60, was born on August 18, 1921 in Pittsburgh, and died on Friday, May 15, 2009.

William D. Zaeh - 1926-2009  
   Well-known local actor William D. Zaeh, Age 83, of Carnegie, died Tuesday, April 28, 2009. He was 83.

   The Allegheny County Labor Council, the United Steelworkers, the Labor and Religion Coalition of Western Pennsylvania, and the Washington/Greene County Labor Council Workers’ Memorial Day Ceremony takes place Tuesday, April 28th in Market Square. .

   Meeting by videoconference plenary in Los Angeles and New York, the Joint SAG-AFTRA National Board today voted unanimously to approve and recommend to members, new three-year successor agreements to the 2006 AFTRA Television and Radio Commercials Contracts and the 2006 Screen Actors Guild Television Commercials Contract.

   Professional performers and broadcasters have hectic schedules and frequent travel. AFTRA has now made it easier for new and aspiring professionals to join AFTRA through the newly launched JOIN AFTRA ONLINE section for the AFTRA Web site.

   Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists announced today that the AFTRA/SAG Joint Negotiating Committee has reached a unanimous tentative agreement with the Joint Policy Committee (JPC) of the American Association of Advertising Agencies (AAAA) and the Association of National Advertisers (ANA) on terms for successor agreements to the AFTRA Television and Radio Commercials Contracts and the SAG Television Commercials Contract, subject to approval by the SAG/AFTRA Joint National Board.

   The Philadelphia Local has announced that employees at CBS3.com, Philadelphia's CBS3 web portal, voted overwhelmingly on March 11 to make AFTRA their collective bargaining representative.

Honsberger Celebrates 30th  
   NewsRadio 1020 KDKA's Fred Honsberger celebrated 30 years with the station Thursday, Feb. 26 during a special anniversary broadcast hosted by Mike Pintek and former KDKA morning host John Cigna.

Don Riggs 1925 - 2009  
   The Pittsburgh broadcast community was saddened Saturday to learn of the passing of television pioneer Don Riggs. He was 81. Riggs first came to Pittsburgh in 1960 after several years in radio and TV in Columbus, Ohio.

R.D. Summers (Thomas L. Renkenberger)   
   Longtime host of 3WS' Sunday Night Oldies Diner, R.D.Summers died at home over the weekend. He was 60.
