I. The Scholarships

1. Academic scholarships are available to eligible students on undergraduate and graduate levels, for any field including labor relations and broadcast journalism studies.

2. Performing arts scholarships are also available. Recipients must be accepted by an accredited performing arts institution. These scholarships are not awarded for individual coaching or study with private teachers.

3. Scholarship winners are selected by the AFTRA Pittsburgh Scholarship Committee.

4. Winners of scholarships may attend any accredited college or university in the United States, selecting there any course of study which leads to a Bachelor's or advanced degree.

5. Awards will be determined in late spring. Each scholarship award will become effective when the winner is enrolled in the college to which he/she has been admitted. However, should the applicant be advised that he/she is the recipient of a scholarship from the college he/she is attending, applicant must immediately notify the Scholarship Committee. (Where the college withholds its award because of our award, we will have made a non-productive allocation of very limited funds.)

6. In order to be considered in the competition for the scholarships in the upcoming academic year, applicant must complete the application form and provide all other required information and send them before May 1st to: AFTRA/Dan Mallinger Memorial Fund Scholarships, 625 Stanwix St., Ste. 2007, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.

7. We regret that grants will not be automatically renewed. A new application is required annually.

II. Eligibility

1. An applicant for a scholarship must be an AFTRA member or the dependant child of an AFTRA member in good standing for at least five years, or the dependant child of a deceased member who, at the time of death, was an AFTRA member in good standing for at least five years.

2. Applicants must show both a high level of academic achievement and financial need since the limited number of available scholarships will be awarded on a strictly competitive basis. The amount of the individual award will depend upon the financial need of the family and the availability of funds; it may be for less but cannot not be for more than $1,000.

3. The applicant must send a fully completed application form plus all other required information by the specified date.
